JOEL ERIKSSON JOINS ENVISION RACING!

Joel Eriksson’s announcement as a full-time driver for Envision Racing ahead of the 2025–26 Formula E season represents more than just a new chapter in his own racing career, it’s a move for the team as it gears up for the transition into the Gen4 era. The multi-year deal, will provide Envision with long-term stability in its driver lineup, with Eriksson partnering veteran Sébastien Buemi. Together, they will form a blend of youth and experience, technical expertise, and proven racecraft, critical attributes as the team seeks to remain competitive through one of the most important regulatory shifts in Formula E history.

For Envision, this signing signals a clear commitment to forward-thinking development. After a challenging 2024–25 season marked by mixed results and mid-season driver substitutions due to WEC calendar clashes, the team’s decision to bring in Eriksson full-time shows an intent to build around a technically-minded and adaptable driver. Eriksson’s experience as Jaguar TCS Racing’s reserve and simulator driver from 2023 to 2025 gave him invaluable insight into the workings of Formula E powertrains and systems, knowledge he’ll now bring directly into Envision’s race operations.

Team Principal Sylvain Filippi praised Eriksson’s growth, saying, “Joel has been on our radar for some time—not just because of his raw talent, but because of his approach to development and team integration. His performance in Berlin proved exactly why he’s the right choice for our future.”

Eriksson’s standout performance during the 2024 Berlin E-Prix, where he finished ninth after stepping in at the last minute, cemented his reputation as a capable and dependable driver. His ability to adapt quickly, work collaboratively with engineers, and extract performance in a high-pressure environment made a strong impression on the Envision leadership. Reflecting on his new role, Eriksson stated:

“I’ve had a long journey with this team, starting all the way back with my rookie test in 2018. To now return as a full-time race driver, especially as we prepare for the next generation of cars, is a proud moment. I’m ready to put everything I’ve learned into making this project a success.”

Looking ahead, the Eriksson-Buemi pairing offers Envision a strong foundation heading into the new era, which begins after the 2025–26 season. With many teams yet to finalize their long-term driver line ups, Envision has become one of the first to lock in a stable duo, giving them a head start in integrating feedback, refining simulator work, and aligning their technical roadmap. Eriksson’s development background will be particularly useful during Gen4 testing phases, as teams begin shaping their cars for a future defined by faster, lighter, and more sustainable electric racing technology.

Eriksson’s arrival is as much about Envision’s strategic direction as it is about race results. It represents an investment in a driver who not only has pace but also the technical knownledge and long-term vision to help guide the team through one of the most transformative periods in Formula E’s history. With a strong foundation now in place, Envision Racing is clearly aiming not just to compete, but to lead, as the sport enters its next evolution.
