FIA F2 – TSOLOV WINS OPENING FEATURE RACE OF THE SEASON
The feature race in Melbourne delivered a dramatic and eventful scenario, marked by several safety car periods and a major twist following the retirement of poleman Dino Beganovic. Nikola Tsolov took the victory ahead of Rafael Camara and Laurens Van Hoepen.
Starting from pole position, Dino Beganovic had a poor launch and dropped to fifth place in the opening corners. Up front, Martinius Stenshorne took the lead of the race, closely followed by Alex Dunne and Nikola Tsolov.
The race quickly heated up on lap three with an intense battle between the two Rodin drivers. The duel ended in contact at Turn 1, bringing out the safety car and forcing both drivers to retire from the race.
Just before the halfway point, Dino Beganovic continued his comeback and managed to pass Rafael Camara before misfortune struck the pole-sitter. On lap 17, Beganovic was forced to retire due to a mechanical problem.
The safety car benefited Nico Varrone, who had started from P18. The Argentine found himself leading the race after the pit stops. However, at the restart Nikola Tsolov immediately overtook Varrone. The Bulgarian driver then controlled the remainder of the race perfectly to secure the victory.
Behind him, Rafael Camara secured a solid second place, while Laurens Van Hoepen delivered an excellent performance to finish on the podium, capping off a very strong weekend for the Dutch driver.
