FORMULA 2 – TSOLOV WINS THE SPRINT RACE AFTER A TIGHT BATTLE
The Formula 2 feature race in Miami delivered action from start to finish, with battles throughout the field. After a thrilling finale, Nikola Tsolov claimed victory following a race-long fight with Laurens Van Hoepen, finishing ahead of Alex Dunne.
A tricky start
The start of the race dealt a major blow to Kush Maini, who suffered an issue on the grid and was forced to start from the pit lane despite originally lining up in 10th place.
In the pack, the opening lap was particularly difficult for Goethe, who dropped seven positions after starting third on the grid.
At the front, the battle for the lead immediately came alive with four drivers involved: Nikola Tsolov, Laurens Van Hoepen, Joshua Durksen, and Nico Varrone. Positions changed rapidly, especially between Durksen and Van Hoepen, who exchanged places multiple times while closing in on the Red Bull junior driver.
Van Hoepen and Tsolov in an intense duel
From lap 10 onwards, Laurens Van Hoepen ramped up the pressure on Nikola Tsolov, searching for an opportunity to take the lead.
His efforts paid off at the end of lap 13 when he managed to move into first place. However, just three laps later, Tsolov responded and reclaimed the lead, sparking a multi-lap battle between the two drivers.
Behind the leaders, the action continued. An intense fight for the podium saw Joshua Durksen, Nico Varrone, and Alex Dunne go head-to-head.
Further down the order, a physical battle unfolded between Bilinski, Colton Herta, and Benett. The race was also marked by several retirements in the pit lane.
An exceptional finish
In the closing laps, Alex Dunne managed to get the better of Joshua Durksen to move into third place, joining the fight for victory.
The final moments of the race delivered a spectacular three-way finish, with Nikola Tsolov, Laurens Van Hoepen, and Alex Dunne going wheel-to-wheel all the way to the line.
Nikola Tsolov ultimately had the last word, taking victory after a sensational race ahead of Van Hoepen and Dunne, setting the stage for the rest of the weekend!
