BREAKING: WEC POSTPONES QATAR ROUND AND IMOLA WILL BE 2026 SEASON OPENER
Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Lusail International Circuit has suspended all of its activities. As a result, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) has decided to delay the Qatar round, which was originally planned to open the new season, Motorsportsclicks has been told.
The 1812 km of Qatar was set to take place at the end of March, with the traditional two-day Prologue test scheduled just days before the race. However, with the circuit closed until further notice, the championship had no choice but to make changes to the calendar.
The 2026 season will now begin in Italy at Imola. The race weekend at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari is scheduled from April 17 to April 19. The official pre-season test, known as the Prologue, will take place on April 14.
Unlike previous years, the Prologue will last only one day instead of two. This shorter test means teams will have less time to prepare their cars and gather data before the first race of the season.
Further updates about the Qatar round are expected in the coming weeks, but for now, Imola will host the opening chapter of the new WEC season.
