CHINESE MANUFACTURER BYD CONSIDERS JOINING FORMULA 1

Chinese car manufacturer BYD is reportedly looking into the possibility of entering professional motorsport for the first time. The company is currently studying several racing categories as part of its growing global expansion.

One of the main options being considered is Formula 1. The championship’s new regulations starting in 2026 will increase the importance of the electric side of the power unit, including larger battery capacity and greater energy deployment. These areas match well with BYD’s experience, as the company is a global leader in electric vehicles and battery technology.

BYD is exploring different ways to join Formula 1. One possibility would be creating a completely new team, while another option could be buying a stake in an existing team to make the process faster and reduce the risks involved in starting from scratch.

At the same time, the company is also evaluating a potential program in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Endurance racing focuses heavily on efficiency, hybrid systems, and long-distance performance, which also fits well with BYD’s engineering strengths.

According to reports from Bloomberg, BYD, now the world’s largest producer of electric and hybrid vehicles, having surpassed Tesla in total volume, is studying several motorsport opportunities as it continues to expand internationally.
