FIA F2 2026 – GABRIELE MINI TOPS HECTIC F2 PRACTICE SESSION

The 2026 Formula 2 season began in Melbourne with the first practice session of the weekend. It was a fairly eventful session, marked by several incidents and two red flags.

Gabriele Minì set the fastest time. The Italian finished ahead of Noel León and Rafael Câmara, completing a tight top three in this first session before qualifying later today.

Several incidents disrupted the teams’ running. Colton Herta notably triggered a red flag after going off track at the exit of Turn 10 during his first-ever Formula 2 session. Later in the session, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak also made a mistake at Turn 12, bringing out another red flag.

Several drivers found themselves in the gravel during the session, while contact between Gabriele Minì and John Bennett occurred in the final corner.

The end of the session was also difficult for the Italian driver, who suffered an engine issue while returning to the pit lane.

In terms of pure performance, Campos looks very strong. Noel León and Nikola Tsolov showed promising pace ahead of qualifying.

These first practice sessions therefore provide a glimpse of what could be a closely contested weekend, with several drivers running at the front. The big favorite, Rafael Camara, will be one to watch in the qualifying session.
