FORMULA 2 RETURNS TO MONZA WITH THE TITLE FIGHT HEATING UP
Formula 2 returns to Italy and the iconic Monza circuit this weekend for the 10th round of the 2026 season. After a long summer break, the championship enters a very important phase, with Nikola Tsolov leading Gabriele Minì by 20 points and Rafael Câmara only two points further behind.
TSОLOV AIMS TO RETAIN THE LEAD
Nikola Tsolov remains at the top of the championship with 167 points. The Campos Racing driver has already taken six victories this season, more than any other driver, and has built an important advantage over his rivals. However, his lead is far from safe with five rounds still remaining after Monza.
Gabriele Minì sits second with 147 points and will have the advantage of racing at his home event. The MP Motorsport driver has been one of the most consistent drivers in the championship and will be looking to use the support of the Italian fans to reduce the gap to Tsolov. Minì has already said that qualifying will be especially important if he wants to make the most of his home weekend.
Rafael Câmara is another major threat. The Brazilian is third with 145 points, only two behind Minì and 22 behind Tsolov. His four pole positions are the most of any driver this season, showing that he has the pace to fight at the front when everything comes together.
The battle could therefore become a three-way fight. Tsolov, Minì and Câmara have all won multiple races this year, and a strong weekend at Monza could change the picture before the championship heads into its final stages.
MONZA COULD CREATE CHAOS
Monza is one of the fastest circuits on the F2 calendar and is famous for its long straights, heavy braking zones and slipstream battles. The track is 5.793 kilometres long, while the cars spend around 80% of a lap at full throttle.
These characteristics normally create plenty of overtaking opportunities, but they can also make the races difficult to predict. The first chicane is particularly important, with incidents often taking place when the entire field arrives together after the long run from the start.
Qualifying will also be extremely important. At Monza, only two drivers have converted pole position into a Feature Race victory in recent years: Oscar Piastri in 2021 and Luke Browning in 2025. Gabriel Bortoleto also showed just how unpredictable the circuit can be in 2024, winning the Feature Race after starting from the back of the grid.
The weekend will begin with Free Practice on Friday morning, followed by Qualifying in the afternoon. The Sprint Race will take place on Saturday, while the Feature Race will close the F2 weekend on Sunday morning.
THE END OF THE SEASON STILL HAS QUESTIONS
The championship will continue from Monza to Madrid and Baku before the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi who are not confirmed yet. The current calendar has five rounds remaining after Italy, giving the title contenders plenty of opportunities to change the order.
The late-season races will also be important because the championship is expected to go down to the final rounds. For Tsolov, the priority will be to avoid unnecessary risks and continue scoring regularly, while Minì and Câmara need to turn their pace into points if they want to keep the pressure on the leader.
