FORMULA-E RETURNS TO SPAIN: ANOTHER CIRCUIT DEBUTS
After a five-year absence, the Formula E championship is back to Spain, and this time, it’s the capital taking center stage. Round 6 of the FIA ABB Formula E World Championship heads to Madrid for the inaugural Raval CUPRA Madrid E-Prix, hosted at the iconic Circuito del Jarama.
This marks the first race in Spain since the 2020–21 Valencia E-Prix, signaling a long-awaited return for Spanish fans.
Madrid becomes the 23rd city to host a Formula E race, adding another milestone to the series’ global expansion. The Jarama Circuit, stretching 3.934 km with 14 turns, already earned praise from drivers after hosting pre-season testing in 2024.
Originally stepping in when Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo was unavailable due to severe flooding, Jarama proved to be a challenging and well-balanced track, one that’s expected to deliver exciting racing.
Pit Boost Twist Adds Strategy
A major talking point this weekend is the return of Pit Boost, but with a twist.
Typically reserved for double-header events, the Madrid E-Prix will feature Pit Boost in a single race for the first time. Drivers must make a mandatory 30-second pit stop to gain a 10% battery increase, adding a new strategic layer.
Combined with a six-minute Attack Mode, teams will face complex decisions on timing, positioning, and risk, potentially shaking up the race order.
Unpredictable Season: Five Winners in Five Races
The 2026 season has been fiercely competitive, with five different winners in the opening five rounds:
- Jake Dennis – São Paulo
- Nick Cassidy – Mexico City (from P13)
- Mitch Evans – Miami (from P9)
- Pascal Wehrlein – Jeddah Round 4
- António Félix da Costa – Jeddah Round 5
No driver has managed to win more than once, a clear sign of the championship’s parity.
The title fight is already taking shape, with momentum shifting between key contenders.
Nick Cassidy started strong but has struggled in recent rounds, scoring just one points finish since Round 3. Meanwhile, Pascal Wehrlein capitalized on his consistency and now leads the standings with 68 points.
A new challenger has emerged in Edoardo Mortara, who impressed in Jeddah with two pole positions and a second-place finish. He now sits second in the championship, just six points behind Wehrlein.
Rookie Test Returns
Following the race weekend, Formula E will host its annual Rookie Test on Sunday. Each team is required to field two less experienced drivers, giving rising talents a full day to get behind the wheel of the GEN3 Evo car.
