KALLE ROVANPERA STEPS BACK FROM SINGLE SEATERS IN 2026

Two-time world rally champion Kalle Rovanpera has been forced to abandon his planned move into Super Formula in 2026 due to medical issues.

The Finnish driver explained that his body is struggling to handle the extreme physical demands of single-seater cars. These cars require much more strength and endurance than rally cars, especially because of the high cornering forces.

Rovanpera had a clear plan: spend a year in Super Formula, then move up to Formula 2, and eventually aim for a future in Formula 1. However, this path now looks very unlikely.

Even so, he made it clear that his racing career is not over.

Switching from rally to circuit racing is not easy. Normally, a driver needs about three to six months of preparation just to handle a Formula 4 car coming from another sport.

For something as fast and demanding as Super Formula, a full year of training would likely be needed, especially for someone coming from rallying.

Earlier this year, Rovanpera competed in Formula Regional Oceania Championship. With only a few months of preparation, he struggled overall and finished 16th in the standings. Still, he showed promise by taking a podium finish at Teretonga Park.

He has also tried circuit racing before. In 2024, he raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux. Despite only competing in four of the six rounds, he finished fourth overall, winning three races and adding two more podiums.

While his Formula dream may be paused, Rovanperä has already proven he can be competitive in different types of racing.
