SPANISH FEDERATION TO LAUNCH A NEW SINGLE-SEATER FEEDER SERIES
A new junior racing series called Eurocup-5 will join the European single-seater ladder in 2027. The championship has been created by RFEDA, the governing body of Spanish motorsport, which already organizes Eurocup-3 and the Spanish Formula 4 Championship.
The new series is aimed at drivers aged 14 and 15 who are moving from karting into single-seater racing. Since FIA-certified Formula 4 championships have a minimum age of 15, Eurocup-5 is designed to give younger drivers their first experience in race cars before they move up to Formula 4.
The championship will use a new chassis built by ADESS. However, RFEDA has not yet released more technical details about the car.
Eurocup-5 will have a five-round calendar, with two races at each event and five official test days during the season. The races will be held alongside several Eurocup-3 and Spanish Formula 4 events, allowing young drivers to compete on the same weekends as more experienced categories.
RFEDA says that the cost of a full season will not exceed €150,000. To help talented young drivers, the organization will award €42,000 to the highest-placed junior driver in the 2026 Spanish Karting Championship. The prize money can be used to help fund a seat in Eurocup-5 in 2027.
To keep costs under control and ensure equal opportunities for all competitors, drivers will not be allowed to test other types of single-seater cars during the season. Outside of official Eurocup-5 test days, karting will be the only form of testing permitted.
With this new championship, RFEDA hopes to create a clear and affordable first step for young drivers before they progress to Spanish Formula 4 or other Formula 4 championships. More details about Eurocup-5 are expected to be announced in the coming months.
