VERSTAPPEN OUTPACED BY TEAMMATE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2024
Max Verstappen has been outpaced by his teammate in a full qualifying session for the first time since the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. On that occasion, Sergio Pérez qualified in fourth place, while Verstappen could only manage sixth.
Since then, Verstappen had always been faster than his teammate in regular Grand Prix qualifying sessions. This makes the latest result an unusual moment for the world champion.
There was a similar situation in November 2025, when Yuki Tsunoda was faster than Verstappen in sprint qualifying at the Qatar Grand Prix. However, that session was shorter and not part of the main Grand Prix qualifying format.
Because of this, today’s result is the first true example since 2024 where Verstappen has been outpaced by a teammate in a full qualifying session. It shows that even top drivers can face strong competition from within their own team.
