WEHRLEIN DOMINATES FIRST JEDDAH E-PRIX OF THE FORMULA-E WEEKEND
Pascal Wehrlein won the first race of the weekend in Jeddah with a strong and controlled drive.
Edoardo Mortara started from pole position, ahead of Maximilian Günther and Wehrlein. But Mortara had a very bad start and dropped to seventh place. By the end of lap one, he had recovered to fifth. Günther led the race, followed by Norman Nato and Taylor Barnard.
There was early drama when Zane Maloney and Pepe Martí crashed, Maloney’s car had broken suspension, and he had to retire. The Safety Car came out for four laps.
The race restarted on lap five. Soon after, Wehrlein passed Barnard to move into third place, and on lap six, Nato overtook Günther and took the lead.
This was an unusual Formula E race. There was a mandatory Pit Boost stop, which meant drivers were not saving as much energy as usual. The field was more spread out than normal. Also, there was only one Attack Mode instead of the usual two.
On lap 14, Wehrlein passed Günther for second place. One lap later, he overtook Nato to take the lead.
Pit Boost stops started around lap 15. Most drivers pitted first and then used Attack Mode. Günther did the opposite, he used Attack Mode first and pitted later.
By lap 23 of 31, the race was almost decided. Wehrlein had opened an eight-second gap to second place, a big advantage in Formula E.
Mortara and Mitch Evans saved their Attack Mode until the end of the race. That helped them move up into podium positions.
Because of the four laps behind the Safety Car at the start, one extra lap was added. Wehrlein stayed in control and won the race. It was his first victory since Miami in 2025.
Mortara finished second and Evans completed the podium in third.
