DE VRIES WINS IN MONACO AFTER SMART PIT BOOST STRATEGY

Nyck de Vries won Round 9 of the Monaco E-Prix after a calm and clever drive on the tight streets of Monte Carlo. The Mahindra Racing driver started from the front row and used a strong PIT BOOST strategy to take control of the race.

Dan Ticktum started from pole position and led the field into Turn 1. The race began in a clean way, but trouble arrived early. On Lap 4, Nick Cassidy and Jake Dennis were involved in an incident, with Dennis being pushed into the barriers. The Safety Car was called, and Dennis was out of the race. Cassidy later received a 10-second penalty.

The race restarted on Lap 6, and the drivers had to stay very careful on the narrow Monaco circuit. Joel Eriksson and Nico Müller came close to contact, and a few laps later Müller was involved in another incident, this time with his Porsche teammate Pascal Wehrlein. Both drivers had to pit because of damage. Wehrlein had a puncture, while Müller lost the front part of his car.

Oliver Rowland also suffered a puncture on the same lap. His pit stop dropped him to the back of the field and ended his hopes of scoring points.

The PIT BOOST stops began on Lap 15. Eriksson and Müller were the first drivers to stop, and De Vries came in one lap later. He returned to the track in seventh place, but many of the cars ahead still needed to pit.

As the PIT BOOST cycle played out, António Félix da Costa found himself leading the race on Lap 20. However, De Vries and Mitch Evans were close behind and both used ATTACK MODE to fight for the lead. De Vries made the move on da Costa and took control of the race.

From that point, De Vries looked very strong. He stayed calm while battles happened behind him and slowly built a comfortable gap. By the end, he crossed the line three seconds ahead of the chasing pack.

Mitch Evans finished second for Jaguar Racing. It was his fifth podium in Monaco and an important result for his championship. With the points from second place, Evans moved ahead of Pascal Wehrlein and took the lead in the Drivers’ World Championship by 15 points.

Ticktum looked set to finish third after a strong drive from pole, but his race changed late on. On Lap 28, he was involved in a dramatic crash with da Costa at Turn 10. Da Costa lost a wheel and stopped at the side of the track.

The race returned to green flag conditions for one final lap, but nobody was able to catch De Vries. The Mahindra driver took his fifth Formula E victory, his first win since Berlin 2022, and his first victory with Mahindra Racing. It was also Mahindra’s first win of the GEN3 era.

Ticktum crossed the line in third place, but he later received a post-race drive-through penalty. That dropped him to 12th place and promoted his CUPRA KIRO teammate Pepe Martí to third.

Martí’s podium was the best result of his Formula E career so far. He also became the first Spanish driver to win silverware in Formula E.

The result was also big for Jaguar, as Evans’ podium helped the team move ahead of Porsche in the Teams’ Championship. Porsche still kept the lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship.

Formula E returns in Monaco tomorrow for Round 10 of the 2025/26 season and the second race of the Monaco E-Prix double-header.
