HORNER AND BYD HOLD TALKS OVER POSSIBLE F1 ENTRY
Christian Horner and BYD executive vice-president Stella Li have reportedly held positive talks about a possible Formula 1 project. The meeting took place as the Chinese car manufacturer continues to explore ways of entering the sport.
The idea is still at an early stage, but BYD is understood to be looking at different options. That could mean joining Formula 1 as a sponsor, investing in an existing team, or trying to create a new 12th team on the grid.
For Horner, it could be a major route back into Formula 1 after leaving Red Bull. His experience in building Red Bull into one of the sport’s strongest teams would make him a valuable figure for any new project, especially one backed by a major manufacturer.
For BYD, Formula 1 could be a powerful global platform. The company is already one of the biggest names in electric vehicles, and entering F1 would give it huge visibility in Europe, Asia and other key markets.
A 12th team would be exciting for Formula 1. It would create more seats for drivers, more competition, and more storylines for fans. But it would also be a huge challenge. Building a new F1 team is expensive, difficult and takes years of planning.
Nothing is official yet, but the talks show that BYD’s interest in Formula 1 is becoming serious. If the project moves forward, a BYD-backed team led by Horner would be one of the biggest stories on the F1 grid.
