VERSTAPPEN RACING SIGNS MCLAREN JUNIOR DRIES VAN LANGENDONCK

One of the brightest young talents in junior single-seater racing, 15-year-old Dries Van Langendonck, has joined Verstappen Racing while continuing as a member of the McLaren Driver Development Programme.

The Belgian driver, who has been part of McLaren’s junior programme since July 2024, is currently enjoying an impressive first full season in the British Formula 4 Championship, where he leads the standings. His performances have attracted attention across the motorsport world, including from four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen.

Despite joining Verstappen Racing, Van Langendonck will remain a McLaren junior. Instead of replacing McLaren’s support, Verstappen Racing and Verstappen’s management team will work alongside the Woking-based squad to provide additional guidance, driver coaching and career management as the teenager continues his climb through the junior racing ladder.

Speaking about the announcement, Van Langendonck described the partnership as an important milestone in his career.

“Verstappen Racing gives me the support I need to take the next step in my career and marks an important milestone on my journey towards Formula 1, which remains my ultimate goal,” he said.

“Being able to learn alongside an experienced driver like Max and benefit from the support of his professional management team, as well as McLaren Racing, is incredible. I am very grateful and will continue giving everything I have to improve my performance while doing what I love most: racing.”

Verstappen explained that he had been following the Belgian’s progress for some time and was impressed by both his speed and his attitude. After meeting Van Langendonck and his family, the Dutchman became convinced that the young driver has the qualities needed to build a successful professional career.

“I have been impressed by the rapid progress Dries has made throughout his career and by the talent he has shown, both in karting and during his first steps in single-seaters,” Verstappen said.

“After getting to know Dries and his family, I am convinced that he has all the qualities needed to become a top racing driver. Together with my management team, and with support from Verstappen Racing Pro Simulation, we will help him work towards his ultimate goal of reaching Formula 1.”

Verstappen Racing has expanded its activities over the past year, supporting drivers across different categories, including GT racing with Chris Lulham and Thierry Vermeulen. The addition of Van Langendonck marks the team’s first major involvement with one of Europe’s leading Formula 4 prospects.

Before moving into single-seaters, Van Langendonck established himself as one of the strongest karters of his generation. He won the 2023 FIA Karting Academy Trophy and enjoyed success in several international karting championships before graduating to Formula 4. His transition to cars has been equally impressive, with multiple victories and consistent podium finishes placing him at the top of the British F4 championship during his rookie campaign.
