GUEVARA STEPS UP TO MOTOGP WITH PRAMAC YAMAHA FOR 2027
Yamaha has confirmed that Izan Guevara will move up from Moto2 to race in MotoGP with Prima Pramac Yamaha in 2027. The 22-year-old Spaniard will line up alongside Toprak Razgatlioglu, who stays with the team for a second season. The announcement was made on Thursday, ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix.
He won the Moto3 world title in 2022 with seven victories and twelve podiums, and he has grown into a regular front-runner in Moto2. He closed the 2025 season by winning the final round at Valencia, then started 2026 with three podiums in the first five races, including a win at Le Mans. He currently sits second in the Moto2 championship, so he steps up as a live title contender rather than as a rider simply being moved along.
Guevara already races for Pramac in Moto2, and this is the first rider Yamaha has advanced through the BLU CRU development structure it set up with the Italian team in 2025. He has sat on the MotoGP bike once before, testing a YZR-M1 at the post-season Valencia test in late 2025, on Miller’s machine, and reportedly as the prize for a bet he won against team manager Gino Borsoi.
Yamaha confirmed earlier the same day that Jack Miller will depart Pramac at the end of this season. The Australian, a four-time MotoGP race winner, is not leaving Yamaha entirely; he moves across to the manufacturer’s World Superbike programme.
Normally a new MotoGP rider spends a year learning machinery his rivals already understand. In 2027 nobody will have much of a head start, because the bikes, the tyres and the way they behave will be new to the whole grid. Guevara has said as much himself, pointing out that the new era should open doors for riders arriving at the same moment.
He described the step up as a dream come true, and thanked Yamaha for the confidence shown in him. Team principal Paolo Campinoti framed the signing as proof that the partnership with Yamaha can carry a rider from the smaller classes to the premier class within one structure.
Guevara becomes the third rookie so far confirmed for the 2027 grid. Before any of that, he still has a Moto2 championship to fight for this season, with the title race running through to Valencia in November.
