KEAN NAKAMURA-BERTA TO MAKE FORMULA 3 DEBUT WITH TRIDENT IN 2027
Kean Nakamura-Berta will move up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2027 after signing with Trident Motorsport. The 18-year-old British driver will make his F3 debut with the Italian team and will continue to receive support from the Williams F1 Team Driver Academy.
Nakamura-Berta has built a strong record in junior single-seaters since making his move from karting. Before entering cars, he won the CIK-FIA World OK-Junior Championship in 2021 and the CIK-FIA European OK Championship in 2022. He made his single-seater debut at the end of 2023.
His breakthrough came in 2025 with Prema. Nakamura-Berta won the Italian Formula 4 Championship after taking nine victories and 17 podiums. He also won the Euro 4 Championship, making it a double title-winning season in Formula 4.
In 2026, he stepped up to Formula Regional with Prema. He won the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy at the start of the year before competing in the new FIA Formula Regional European Championship.
Nakamura-Berta finished third in the 2026 European championship. During the season, he scored three victories and five pole positions, and he spent part of the year leading the championship. He also won at the Red Bull Ring and Monza before finishing the season in third place.
The move to Trident gives Nakamura-Berta a new challenge after three seasons connected with Prema. Trident has been one of the leading teams in FIA Formula 3 in recent years, winning the Drivers’ Championship with Gabriel Bortoleto in 2023, Leonardo Fornaroli in 2024 and Rafael Câmara in 2025.
Trident also finished second in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship with Freddie Slater, who made the move from Formula Regional to F3 this season. This makes Nakamura-Berta the first confirmed driver for Trident’s 2027 F3 line-up.
Nakamura-Berta will therefore enter one of the most important stages of the FIA single-seater ladder in 2027. He will also remain part of the Williams Driver Academy, giving him continued support from a Formula 1 programme as he begins his first season in F3.
