SENNA AGIUS TO MAKE MOTOGP DEBUT WITH TECH3 IN 2027
Senna Agius will step up from Moto2 to MotoGP in 2027 after signing with Red Bull KTM Tech3. The Australian rider will make his premier-class debut alongside Luca Marini, completing Tech3’s line-up for the new MotoGP era.
Agius has been competing in the Moto2 World Championship since 2024. Before that, he raced in the Moto2 European Championship, finishing runner-up in 2022 before winning the title in 2023. He then moved to the world championship and scored a podium during his rookie season.
The Australian has continued to develop in Moto2 and has established himself as one of the leading riders in the category. In 2026, he has been fighting near the front of the championship with multiple victories and podium finishes. His performances convinced Tech3 to give him the opportunity to move into MotoGP.
Agius will join Tech3 at a major moment for MotoGP. The 2027 season will introduce a new set of technical regulations, including smaller 850cc engines, new aerodynamic rules and the switch to Pirelli tyres. MotoGP will also return to a 1000cc-to-850cc engine format as part of the changes designed to make the bikes smaller and lighter.
The timing of the move could also help Agius because Moto2 has already been using Pirelli tyres since 2024. This means the Australian will arrive in MotoGP with experience of the tyre manufacturer that will supply the premier class from 2027. Luca Marini has also highlighted this as a possible advantage for Agius during his rookie season.
Agius will partner Marini, who was already confirmed by Tech3 for 2027. Marini will bring several years of MotoGP experience to the team after making his premier-class debut in 2021 and spending the 2024-2026 seasons with Honda. His experience will be particularly important for Tech3 as KTM and the team prepare for the new technical regulations.
The Australian’s arrival also completes the 2027 MotoGP grid. All 22 places have now been confirmed, with Agius becoming the final rider announced for next season. He will be one of five rookies entering the premier class in 2027, alongside David Alonso, Daniel Holgado, Izan Guevara and Nicolò Bulega.
Agius said that reaching MotoGP is a lifelong dream and thanked Tech3 boss Günther Steiner and the team for giving him the opportunity. He also made clear that he still has work to complete in Moto2 before making the move to the premier class.
The 2027 season will therefore mark a major step in Agius’ career. After progressing from the European championship to Moto2 and then establishing himself among the leading riders in the category, the Australian will now get his first chance to compete against the world’s best MotoGP riders.
