ALONSO AND STROLL TO STAY WITH ASTON MARTIN FOR 2027
Aston Martin has confirmed that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will remain the team’s drivers for the 2027 Formula 1 season. Both drivers have extended their contracts with the Silverstone-based team, confirming an unchanged line-up for another year.
The 2027 season will be the fifth consecutive year that Alonso and Stroll race together at Aston Martin. Alonso joined the team in 2023 after leaving Alpine, while Stroll has been part of the Aston Martin project since its first season under the current name in 2021.
For Stroll, 2027 will be his 11th season in Formula 1. The Canadian joined the championship in 2017 and has now made more than 200 Grand Prix starts, with three podium finishes. He will continue with Aston Martin as the team works on its long-term project.
Alonso’s decision was more uncertain during the 2026 season. The two-time World Champion had taken time to consider whether he wanted to continue racing in Formula 1, especially after Aston Martin struggled during the first part of the season. The Spaniard has now decided to remain with the team and continue his F1 career into 2027.
Alonso said that racing remains his passion and that he still feels motivated to compete at the highest level. He also said that he believes in the project being built at Aston Martin, including the team’s facilities, leadership and technical partners.
The decision means Alonso will enter another season with Aston Martin alongside the new technical structure led by Adrian Newey. Newey joined the team as Managing Technical Partner and Team Principal and has been working on the team’s long-term development as Aston Martin prepares for the next stage of its project.
Honda is also an important part of that future. Aston Martin will continue its works partnership with Honda, with the Japanese manufacturer supplying the team’s power units under the next generation of Formula 1 regulations. The 2027 season will therefore be part of the team’s wider technical project beyond the current rules cycle.
Aston Martin’s decision also provides stability at a time when the 2027 driver market is still taking shape. The team had previously been linked with questions over Alonso’s future, but the new agreement removes one of the seats that could have become available for next season.
The 2027 Formula 1 calendar will feature 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries, with 10 Sprint weekends. The season is scheduled to begin in Bahrain in March and finish in Abu Dhabi in December.
