CÂMARA SNATCHES INCREDIBLE POLE IN FORMULA 3

Championship leader Rafael Câmara took an unbelievable pole position at Budapest by 0.008s on Mari Boya.

The Brazilian has taken pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix for the Formula 3 round. A hectic session saw Rafael Câmara have his first fastest lap deleted due to track limits at turn 4. The Trident team seemed to have the session under control as Stromsted set the early pace, which had been taken by his team mate Charlie Wurz later on.

Mari Boya got on track a bit later than the rest of the pack and snatched P1 from Trident, the Spaniard is showing a monster pace in the last few rounds. A surprising Tuukka Taponen got P1 by 0.001s a couple minutes later, with the Chinese Gerrard Xie of Hitech behind him.

The Trident driver was down in P10 in the last seconds of qualy, both him and Boya were setting the same identical times through the sectors. The Brazilian ended up setting a time of 1:32.510, just 8 thousandths ahead of the Campos Racing driver, and he will start on pole on Sunday, but P12 in the Sprint race.

Câmara’s main rivals, Tsolov and Tramnitz, ended up at the back of the pack in P21 and P17 respectively. Tsolov has had an issue with his engine once again during Free Practice, which reduced the mileage and the confidence of the Bulgarian driver. In a track where tyre wear is excessively harsh and overtaking is quite tough, the Red Bull juniors will struggle to get their positions up in both races.

Câmara a step closer to the title

The Ferrari junior needs to overscore Tsolov and Tramnitz by 11 and 6 points respectively, and half of the job is done already in qualy. He needs to pay attention in the Feature race though, as he has got a flying Mari Boya behind him.

Sprint Race starts tomorrow at 10:05 with the top 12 of qualy reversed, meaning that Inthraphuvasak will start from P1 ahead of a magic James Hedley.
