EXTREME WEATHER THREATENS TO DISRUPT BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX’S SATURDAY ACTION

Formula 1 is carefully monitoring the situation ahead of Saturday’s action at the Brazilian Grand Prix, because a powerful storm system is expected to sweep across the São Paulo region during the night.

According to Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology, an extratropical cyclone will take shape in the south of the country on Friday evening and then travel toward the southeast, right in the direction of São Paulo.

The area around the city, including the Interlagos circuit, could be hit by extremely heavy rainfall, with estimates ranging from 30 to 60 millimeters in just one hour, along with wind gusts that may reach 100 km/h.

Such conditions come with clear dangers: damage to power lines, trees being knocked down, and streets flooding quickly. This isn’t the kind of weather that motorsport can simply ignore.

At the moment, forecasts suggest the worst of the storm will strike on Saturday morning and then gradually weaken as the day goes on. Still, weather systems can shift, and the exact timing remains uncertain.

If the storm arrives at the wrong moment, F1 and the FIA could face a real scheduling puzzle, since they need to fit in both the sprint and the qualifying session on the same day. Heavy rain or strong winds could force delays or even cancellations if safety becomes an issue.
