FIA SET TO INTRODUCE ENERGY DEPLOYMENT LIMIT FOR FORMULA 1 ENGINES IN 2026

The 2026 Formula 1 cars threatening to reach a 400km/h speed, the FIA will be introducing a limit for the deployment of the MGU-K in 2026.

The last rumours about the 2026 engines indicate that even at Monaco, where 8th gear is not even used, the cars could reach even more than 330 km/h down the tunnel.

Something never seen before in Formula 1, but will be possible to do with the new engines releasing 570hp for the combustion part, while on the electric side the power deployed will be as high as 450hp, reaching over 1000 horsepowers.

Therefore, in order to avoid reaching dangerous speeds, the FIA will not allow a high deployment of the MGU-K in all the tracks of the calendar, and will reduce it even more at Monaco and Singapore, where 300km/h is barely reached during races. It is said that the reduction of the MGU-K power could be even at 120kW.

The FIA actually created a map for all the tracks regarding deployment, Max regen per track, and ramp down rate, which is the energy recovered in a certain amount of time. Here is it:

FIA sporting chief Nikolas Tombazis stated: “If the electric share of power increases relative to the combustion engine and batteries only have limited charging and discharging capabilities, energy management will become a major challenge. This will produce some innovations on the electrical side of the unit.”

The last column called “Override mode”, is refered to the overtake button, and the point marked there indicates where it can be activated. The meters distance is correlated to the start/finish line. For example, at Spa it will be available at the start/finish line, in Bahrain, between turn 13 and 14. There will be only one activation point per track.
