FORMULA 3 HITS THE TRACK FOR PRACTICE

Formula 3 cars are back on track for the last weekend of the season, and on Friday morning here at the track the drivers are looking forward to finish the season well.

During the night between Thursday and Friday it has rained heavily at Monza, and the session was marked by a cold track with a few humid patches, but overall everyone went out on slick tires with no concerns.

There was a mixed choice on free practice, many drivers preferred to fit soft tires, while others went on mediums.

It was the first moment for Fefo Barrichello driving the brand new Formula 3 car, and he immediately made a mistake of going wide in turn 1, something usual when the drivers start to heat the tires up at Monza.

With 30 minutes to go, the first push laps were being set, as Theophile Nael went to the top of the timesheets with a 1:40.0.

Five minutes later however, Roman Bilinski had a snap of oversteer while going through the Ascari chicane, and ended up hitting the wall at the exit of the corner. It meant session over for the Rodin driver, as the car got damaged and was needed to be recovered by the marshalls. The session has been red flagged for over ten minutes, with Nael still in the lead.

The session got back to green flag with 15 minutes to go, and the recently crowned champion Rafael Camara got the fastest lap in a 1:39.3.

A minute later however, Noel Leon spun at Lesmo 2 bringing lots of gravel to the track, impeeding some drivers to set a fast lap for some minutes.

It was with Martinius Stenshorne that things got back to normal with 7 minutes to go, as he set the fastest lap two tenths faster than Camara.

The fight for the top spot got even closer at the end as Voisin and Nael set a 1:38.6, beating Nikola Tsolov by a tenth, everyone was pushing very hard to get the data for qualifying later today.

Ugo Ugochukwu ended up setting the fastest lap at the chequered flag in a 1:38.4, three tenths slower than last year’s pole position. The Premas are coming strong to this weekend as Nael finished the session in P3, two tenths away from his team mate.

Rafael Camara did not go for a push lap and he ended his session in P18 only, behind of Christian Ho and ahead of Ivan Domingues.

The drivers will get on track for qualifying at 15:00 CET Time.
