FORMULA REGIONAL NEW GEN CAR ANNOUNCED

The Formula Regional European championship will field a new generation of cars on the grid from 2026.

The Formula Regional European Championship, known as FRECA for having its engines supplied by Alpine, was born in 2019. It has always been a competitive championship with some of the best drivers in the world. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto, Franco Colapinto and Rafael Camara are some of the names revealed from this championship.

However, Alpine has announced a shut down in their engine productions at the end of 2025. The French Formula 1 Team was not the only one affected by this. FRECA also run Alpine engines and it was needed to quickly find an engine supplier from 2026. Fortunately, the FIA and the Italian Motorsport Federation (ACI) have found a deal with Toyota and the Japanese manufacturer will supply the engines for the new Formula Regional cars.

Additionally, it is worth remembering that there are two further regional championships that will be provided with the new car: Formula Regional Americas and Formula Regional Middle East. The latter, oftenly receives almost all the same drivers from the European Championship, since it takes place from January to March, it is used as a Pre-season championship.

The current car, is oftenly recognised for generating plenty of dirty air, compromising on-track racing. A completely new technical design will ensure to avoid this issue and by being in line with the current FIA standards, it will help drivers in their development progress.
