FORNAROLI STARTS THE F2 WEEKEND FASTEST

Leonardo Fornaroli started his weekend in Lusail very well, setting the fastest time in Free Practice with a 1:38.656. Dino Beganovic of Hitech TGR was second, and Alexander Dunne from Rodin Motorsport was third.

Early in the session, Richard Verschoor of MP Motorsport was the quickest with a 1:41.163, with Fornaroli two-tenths behind.

Fornaroli then moved to the top with a 1:40.342, but the gap was very small. Verschoor and Victor Martins both came within 0.080s of his time.

Luke Browning took first place next with a 1:39.701. Verschoor got very close again, only 0.009s slower, and Fornaroli dropped to third.

Browning improved again with a 1:39.285, followed by Fornaroli and his teammate Roman Stanek.

Browning then went to the pits, while Championship leader Fornaroli stayed out and set a 1:39.064 to go fastest again.

Browning tried another quick lap but made a mistake in the final sector. His teammate Beganovic kept pushing and moved to second, just 0.044s off Fornaroli.

As the session neared the end, the drivers were still improving on the hard tyres. Dunne climbed to third.

Fornaroli continued to lead and set his best time, 1:38.656, on his final lap. Beganovic closed the gap to 0.102s soon after. Dunne stayed third, Browning fourth, and Stanek fifth.

Verschoor finished sixth, ahead of his MP teammate Oliver Goethe. Martinius Stenshorne was eighth in his first session for Rodin Motorsport. Rafael Villagómez took ninth for Van Amersfoort Racing, and Jak Crawford completed the top ten for DAMS Lucas Oil.

This ends the first session of the weekend. The drivers will return to the track for Qualifying at 19:10 local time.
