FRMET – A LIVELY OPENING DAY WITH EVENTFUL QUALIFYING AND A CHAOTIC RACE
Surprising qualifying sessions
As in UAE4, Q1 set the grid for Race 1, while Q2 determined the starting order for Race 3. Sebastian Wheldon bounced back compared to last weekend to secure pole position, while it proved more difficult for other drivers, notably Taito Kato. A red flag in Q2 disrupted the rhythm just as some drivers, including those from the G4 team, were on very competitive laps.
A controlled start
Race 1 got underway in a calm manner, with Al Dhaheri quickly gaining the upper hand over Kean Nakamura-Berta to take the lead. Behind them, the field remained relatively close in the opening laps, with no major incidents.
The dynamic of the race changed following a major battle between Alex Powell and Wheldon, just before the red flag was shown. Shortly afterwards, Feldmann Neto was involved in a huge crash and ended up upside down, leading to a lengthy interruption of the race.
Results and penalty
After the restart, Al Dhaheri remained in control to take the victory. Kean Nakamura-Berta finished second, while Alex Powell completed the podium. Wheldon, who was initially classified fourth, received a penalty and was demoted from P4 to P8.
A late crash brought an end to this opening race, with the results definitively set by the incidents. A Race 1 with few overtakes but marked by massive crashes.
