INTEREST FOR DUNNE EMERGES FROM ALPINE AND RED BULL
Alexander Dunne has been one of the emerging talents in this FIA Formula 2 season, and although he is still a Mclaren junior, teams in Formula 1 could take him on loan for private tests, in order to perhaps fulfill their own line-ups for 2026.
An aggressive and rapid driving style has seen the Irishman win 2 races and take 4 further podiums this season with Rodin. However, many mistakes from him has avoided the Mclaren junior to be leading the championship.
As it stands, he sits fifth, 50 points behind the championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, but could have been certainly closer or even ahead of the Italian if it was not for the penalties throughout the year.
His campaign in 2025 so far has surely got Formula 1 bosses’ attention. Alexander Dunne can not take a seat in Mclaren due to the team from Woking having its line-up sealed, and will have to take another path if he wants to get promoted to the pinnacle of Motorsport.
Red Bull’s chief advisor Helmut Marko said he is talking to “Fast drivers” for the 2026 season, with Alexander Dunne being one of them. Although nothing is confirmed, he is certainly under Red Bull’s radar [GP Blog].
Mclaren would then need to loan the Irishman to another team for a certain period of time, something they have done with the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto to Audi, until Norris and Piastri’s contract expire in order to decide a new line-up, maybe.
Alpine’s Flavio Briatore has also shown interest on Alexander Dunne, and the French team is reportedly considering to do a TPC (Test of Previous Car) with the Mclaren junior in order to test his capacity and abilities. Remember that these are just speculations, nothing has been officially confirmed by neither of these teams mentioned above.

Additionally, Flavio Briatore has lately stated that he is seeking for stability inside Alpine, and seems to be keen to keep Franco Colapinto inside the team for another year. In case this happens, Red Bull’s second seat would be the only one available yet for the 2026 season, even though it seems Hadjar will be making the step up from Racing Bulls, with the Brit Arvid Lindblad replacing him.
