MAYA WEUG DOMINATES IN FRONT OF HER HOME CROWD

Starting from pole position, Maya Weug has won the race 2 of this weekend’s F1 Academy Dutch Grand Prix, ahead of Alisha Palmowski and Doriane Pin.

Before the race even started, we have witnessed two controversial moments on the formation lap. Chloe Chambers’ car turned off as the drivers had the green flag to go for the formation lap. This meant that she had to start the race from the pitlane, giving her a big loss of points in the championship.

However, the car did not turn on in the pitlane as well, and she had to retire from the race, missing out on the chance to getting closer to Doriane Pin in the fight for the title.

Lia Block then went on to occupy the grid box which was meant for Chloe Chambers, instead of starting sixth, she would have started fourth. She had to put on the reverse gear to return to her right spot, but it was already too late, as she had been given a 10 second time penalty.

The start of the race was all very clear, as Maya Weug kept the lead at the start, as Ella Lloyd got P2 off the line. However, she was later noted for jump start and was given a 5-second time penalty.

Alisha Palmowski was able to stay right on her tow for the whole race, and managed to get the P2 back at the end of the session due to the penalty given to the Welsh driver.

Maya Weug dominated the race pulling a gap even higher than 5 seconds to P2, winning the race of both Palmowski and her championship rival Pin, who now has decreased her gap in the lead down to 20 points to Weug.

Ella Lloyd pulled out of the podium due to the penalty and finished ahead of Tina Hausmann, who has almost matched her best result of the season, which was a P4 in Canada.

The two other Dutch drivers finished in P6 and P7, with Nina Gademan and the wildcard Esmee Kosterman respectively. Certainly it was a perfect weekend for the Dutch crowd on the F1 Academy side.

Rafaela Ferreira, Alba Hurup Larsen and Chloe Chong closed the top 10 in a fight until the end for the last spot on the points.

The drivers will get back on track in a little over a month at Singapore
