MAYA WEUG STORMS INTO INCREDIBLE POLE POSITION IN F1 ACADEMY

Maya Weug took her second pole position in a row after a fast lap under the Singapore lights, beating her championship rival Doriane Pin.

The Ferrari driver set the best time of 2:03.453 in the final minutes, holding off title leader Pin and Red Bull Ford’s Chloe Chambers. Pin almost missed her last chance but crossed the line just in time and grabbed second place, only 0.042s slower than Weug.

Qualifying began with Wild Card driver Lisa Billard putting the first lap on the board at 2:10.614. Block quickly went faster with a 2:10.474. Trouble came early for Alisha Palmowski, who hit the wall at Turn 5 in her Red Bull Ford.

With yellow flags in the first two sectors, Billard returned to the top, but soon Ella Lloyd beat her by almost a second with a 2:04.958. The session was then stopped with red flags to recover Palmowski’s damaged car.

When running restarted, Billard went quickest again with a 2:04.677. Pin then showed her speed from practice by taking first place on a 2:03.885, with Chambers slotting into second, half a second back.

Chambers improved again to move ahead of Pin, while Billard climbed into third place, just in front of Lloyd and Weug, who was held up in traffic.

After a tyre change and some clean air, Weug got within 0.014s of Chambers, before posting her best lap of 2:03.453 to take P1 by nearly two tenths.

Pin almost lost her final shot due to traffic, but just made it to the line before the flag and snatched second ahead of Chambers, leaving Weug with back-to-back poles.

Lloyd brushed the wall but still managed fourth. Billard impressed on debut, securing fifth—the best Qualifying for a Wild Card this season, just ahead of Emma Felbermayr.

Aurelia Nobels was seventh, followed by Block, Alba Larsen, and Chloe Chong, who completed the top ten in the #27 Charlotte Tilbury car.

This result means Block will start Race 1 from reverse grid pole, with lights out at 15:00 local time on Saturday.
