NAKAMURA-BERTA WINS THRILLING MONZA RACE 1 TO CLOSE IN ON E4 CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
The final weekend of the 2025 E4 Championship began in dramatic fashion at Monza, with a chaotic Race 1 full of safety cars and lead changes. Kean Nakamura-Berta (Prema Racing) took victory from pole position, strengthening his championship lead after a fierce battle to the finish.
The Japanese driver fought with several rivals for the top spot, including his teammate Newman Chi, Brazilian Gabriel Gomez, and American Sebastian Wheldon. Both Gomez and Wheldon started with grid penalties but made strong recoveries.
Wheldon briefly led near the end but had to give the position back to Nakamura-Berta after cutting the chicane. He was later penalized five seconds for overtaking under the safety car, dropping him to eighth.
Gomez climbed to second place after a solid race, holding off Zhenrui Chi, who received a ten-second penalty for ignoring a black-and-orange flag due to front wing damage. The final podium spot went to Kabir Anurag, who impressed all weekend and battled hard with Chi.
Maksimilian Popov finished fifth, followed by Andrija Kostic and Reno Franco. Oleksandr Bondarev came seventh and won the Rookie class, just ahead of Andy Consani. Salim Hanna was penalized for a false start, while Oleksandr Savinkov took the final point in tenth.
With one race left, the championship is now between Nakamura-Berta (131 points) and Gomez (114). Tomorrow’s Race 2 at Monza will decide the 2025 E4 champion, in a finale much like the Italian F4 showdown two weeks ago.
