PORSCHE FOCUSED ON FORMULA E: TWO FACTORY TEAMS FROM SEASON 13
Porsche has strengthened its commitment to electric racing, announcing plans to field an additional factory operation in the FIA Formula E World Championship starting next season.
On Monday (17), the manufacturer revealed its intention to place two more works-run cars on the Formula E grid from Season 13 onward, establishing a new in-house team alongside its existing factory squad.
The announcement comes only weeks after Porsche confirmed its withdrawal from the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), a move attributed in some reports to financial pressure. The company in fact admitted that they are more focused to work on electric cars in the future when stated its retirement from the WEC.
Porsche will continue to support six Formula E entries in total, but the structure will change: only two of those cars will be run by a customer outfit, likely Andretti, down from the current four customer cars.
The name of Porsche’s second factory team has not yet been disclosed.
