RED BULL FOUND TO BE 20KG OVERWEIGHT IN CHINA

During scrutineering at the Chinese Grand Prix, it was found that the Red Bull car is much heavier than the minimum allowed weight.

The car itself weighs 716.5 kg. When adding the driver’s weight, the total goes up to 781.5 kg with Isack Hadjar (65 kg) and 788.5 kg with Max Verstappen (72 kg). The minimum weight allowed by the rules, including the driver, is 768 kg. This means the car is more than 20 kg over the limit.

Red Bull technical director Pierre Wache had already said the team was facing “some challenges with the weight” of the RB22 before the season began.

A perfect example of the team’s struggles is Max Verstappen in the Chinese Grand Prix: He was losing almost a second to Mercedes and Ferrari through the medium-high speed Turn 7 and Turn 8, showing how much the overweight RB22 impacted lap times.
