REIGNING FORMULA-E CHAMPIONS BEGIN THEIR TITLE DEFENSE: PORSCHE AND ROWLAND TARGETED IN SEASON 12
Formula E Season 12 begins this weekend at the São Paulo E-Prix, and all eyes are on one team and one driver: the Porsche Formula E Team, the reigning Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Champions, and Oliver Rowland, the defending World Drivers’ Champion.
Rowland captured last season’s title in a highly unusual yet dominant campaign. The British driver scored four wins, seven podiums, and one pole position in Tokyo Race 2.
He also started from first place in Monaco Race 2 after topping Free Practice when qualifying was cancelled due to heavy rain. Rowland ended the season 31 points ahead of his closest rival, marking the third-most dominant points margin in the series’ history.
Now, as Formula E prepares for the Gen4 era in Season 13, Rowland carries the responsibility of keeping the number 1 on the Nissan car. He will face a remarkably strong grid featuring former champions and impressive young talent.
Whether the Briton can secure back-to-back titles remains to be seen, but the first clues will come this Saturday at the Anhembi Sambodrome.
On his return to Brazil, the current Champion stated to the media:
“I’m excited to be on track in Brazil and to start the new season as the reigning World Drivers’ Champion. It’s a new season, so our focus is once again on maximizing our performance, as the grid will be even more competitive. It’s a tricky circuit, with low grip and a very uneven surface. Managing temperatures in the heat will be crucial, and it will also be important to find a good rhythm right from FP1. I led most of the São Paulo E-Prix last year, a lot happened, of course, but my goal is to fight again to secure a strong start to this season.”
Porsche chases the double after securing its first Formula-E title

Since joining Formula E in 2019, Porsche has finally claimed its first World Constructors’ Championship, along with the Manufacturers’ Trophy, thanks in part to the efforts of the Andretti team, which uses Porsche powertrains.
With 256 points, one victory courtesy of Pascal Wehrlein in Miami, ten podiums, and three pole positions, the German outfit beat Jaguar by 29 points to take the crown.
The mission for Season 12 is clear: defend their position as the top team in Formula E while attempting to reclaim the Drivers’ Title, last won by Wehrlein in Season 10.
Porsche has refreshed part of its driver lineup for this season, bringing in Nico Müller from Andretti Formula E Team. That covers the reigning world champions as they head into the new season.
