UAE4 – RACES 2 AND 3: CHAOTIC WEATHER AND NON-STOP ACTION IN ABU DHABI
The UAE4 weekend continued to deliver plenty of twists and turns during Races 2 and 3, both marked by tricky weather conditions, multiple neutralisations and spectacular on-track battles.
Race 2: a race completely turned upside down by rain
The second race of the weekend gets off to a strong start with an excellent launch from Emily Cotty, who makes a perfect getaway before losing the lead at the end of the opening lap. Behind her, the early stages are highly animated, with a huge battle on the edge of the top five.
Andy Consani is sent into a spin and drops all the way down to 27th place, severely compromising his race. The situation worsens when a red flag is shown following Dominik Simek’s crash, as the rain begins to intensify.
The race restarts behind the Safety Car, but many drivers are still on slick tyres despite increasingly uncertain conditions. Emily Cotty spins under Safety Car conditions, having started the race from pole position.
A heavy downpour then hits the circuit, still under neutralisation. Some drivers gamble on switching to wet tyres, but the situation becomes far too chaotic. A second red flag is waved, bringing the race to an end in dramatic conditions, with several drivers placed under investigation after the finish.
At the end of this turbulent race, Bader Al Sulaiti takes the victory ahead of Niccolò Maccagnani, while Jarett Clark completes the podium.
Race 3: patience, restarts and spectacular attacks
The third race begins in relatively calm fashion but is soon interrupted by a lengthy Safety Car period.
After nearly ten minutes behind the Safety Car, the race is finally restarted. The restart is clean, with Al Azhari defending against Craigie for P4, providing an entertaining duel.
During this battle, David Cosma-Cristofor pulls off a superb double overtake, perfectly capitalising on the fight between Craigie and Al Azhari. Further up the road, Andy Consani delivers one of the overtakes of the weekend by passing Scott Kin Lindblom for P2 in a spectacular move.
The fight continues inside the top ten, with an intense three-way battle between Al Azhari, Aksoy and Schormans for P6.
In the end, Bondarev secures the victory ahead of Andy Consani, who charges back through the field, while Scott Kin Lindblom steps onto the third step of the podium.
