VICTOR MARTINS CRASHES IN QUALY AT BAKU: HIS FORMULA 2 CAMPAIGN GETS EVEN WORSE
Victor Martins misses out once again on a good result in Qualy in Formula 2, as the French driver crashed in turn 3, causing a red flag.
The Williams junior has scored two podiums so far this season in FIA Formula 2, and is currently sitting 11th in the standings, winless since the Barcelona round in 2024.
This season has been one of the unluckiest for Martins, whenever he got to place himself in a good position, either external factors or mistakes from his part have taken away his success.
The first example is Australia, when he set pole position, but the Feature race got cancelled due to heavy rain conditions, therefore losing the 2 points that are earned in qualy for pole position as well.
The French driver got pole position at Silverstone as well, but the mixed conditions of the weather saw him finish the race 19th only.
After missing out on wins and podiums this season, and having to face retirements in both Hungary and Monza as well, Martins arrived to Baku in good spirits, hoping of a good end to his weekend.
As he got into qualifying, he immediately placed himself fourth, but ended up crashing in turn 3, and caused a red flag. By doing so, he had his fastest lap deleted and dropped down to P13 according to the rules of causing a red flag, which states that you lose your fastest lap if the session is interrupted by your fault.
He will be promoted to P12 for the Sprint race as Arvid Lindblad has got a 10-place grid penalty to serve from Monza.
Martins will have to once again try to climb the order in both races, with the Sprint starting at 14:15 Local time on Saturday.
