INDYNXT: COLLET REIGNS IN LAGUNA SECA, HAUGER MISSES OUT

The Brazilian driver Caio Collet has dominated the IndyNXT weekend at Laguna Seca, reducing his distance to Hauger down to 41 points.

Dennis Hauger’s dominance in IndyNXT so far has been severely decreased after an unusual weekend for the Norwegian. The Andretti driver arrived at the Monterey Bay with an 81-points lead over Brazilian Caio Collet. What was looking to be another weekend of superiority for Hauger was early ruined by a crash in Free Practice 1.

In other words, Hauger’s low adaptability to the track would then influence the remaining of his weekend, things got even harder with the cancellation of FP2 session due to poor weather conditions. Caio Collet was able to take double pole in Qualifying and go after his second win of the season in race 1. Hauger had a good management of the tires overall, and missed out on the race win by a lap, crossing the finish line almost alongside Collet.

However, race 2 saw the championship leader Dennis Hauger retire due to a crash with his team mate Lochie Hughes. The Norwegian lost P2 at the start to Josh Pierson and got immediately into tire management. Following the caution being called out due to a crash, Dennis was preparing to attack Pierson at the restart.

Caught unaware of his team mate Hughes behind him, who jumped the start and overtook him at the last corner. Dennis was desperate to get P3 back and unconsciously attacked his team mate into turn 1, where they ended up crashing into each other.

Collet turned out to be the winner of race 2 as well without any issue. He now find himself 42 points behind Hauger in the standings, and the championship is 3 races away from its conclusion. The drivers return to the track in two weeks time at Portland, alongside Indycar.
