FERRARI TEAMMATES CLEAR THE AIR AFTER TENSE MONZA RACING INCIDENT
Ferrari teammates Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have officially put their early-race collision at the Italian Grand Prix behind them following a private clear-the-air meeting.
Tensions flared on the opening lap at Monza when the pair went side-by-side through the famous Rettifilo chicane. As they navigated Turn 2, Leclerc squeezed Hamilton onto the gravel, forcing the seven-time world champion off the track and causing him to tumble several positions down the order. The afternoon only worsened for Ferrari when Leclerc suffered a high-speed crash at the Parabolica just two laps later, compounding a difficult home race for the Scuderia.
Ahead of the following round at the Madring street circuit in Spain, the drivers sat down face-to-face to address the wheel-to-wheel clash without team personnel present. Leclerc publicly accepted full responsibility for the incident, acknowledging after reviewing the footage that his defending went beyond acceptable limits on track.
The Monégasque driver emphasized that the primary rule when racing for Ferrari is to avoid contact with a teammate, especially in front of the passionate home crowd at Monza.
Hamilton praised his teammate’s maturity for confronting the issue directly and taking accountability rather than letting the frustration linger.
The British driver noted that an open and honest conversation was the healthiest way to maintain the strong working relationship they have built.
Both drivers agreed on clearer boundaries for future battles on track, reassuring fans and the team that their mutual respect remains entirely intact as they move forward into the remainder of the championship.
