PALOU HAS THE FIRST CHANCE TO SEAL THE TITLE AT PORTLAND

Indycar arrives to Portland for the round number 15 of the 17 of the 2025 season. The Spaniard Alex Palou has had perhaps one of the most dominant year so far, winning 50% of the races.

The Chip Ganassi driver, already a three-time Indycar champion, early showed that there wouldn’t have been any rival throughout the season, since the domination at St. Pete until the Indy500. Five wins in the first six races were already putting him in the record books of the series, he only failed to capitalise the race at Long Beach, that was won by Kyle Kirkwood from pole position. Palou finished P2 and completed the first six races in the podium.

The Indy500 win was the proof Palou was the favourite contender for the title in 2025. Despite the double points reward removed in the previous editions, the race victory surely gave Palou an extra boost in his motivation.

His successful streak unfortunately ended at Detroit after crashing with David Malukas in the main race, which counted as his first DNF of the season. As the oval tracks arrived his experience started to kick in and he got two top 10 finishes at Gateway and in race 1 at Iowa, winning race 2.

An unlucky race with strategy at Toronto saw him come home P12 only, with the last win being at Laguna Seca two weeks ago, ahead of Lundgaard and Herta.

Palou now gets to Portland with a 121-point gap to Pato O’Ward behind him. As they leave this weekend with 108 points into play (54 are given out each weekend), Palou needs to avoid getting overscored by Pato O’Ward of anything more than 13 points to win the title in round 15. Scott Dixon who is third in the championship, is already out of the fight, as he finds himself 198 points away from Palou.

Will Palou get his 4th title in style this weekend at Portland? Will he join Dario Franchitti in number of championship wins? We will discover in the next couple days. Qualifying gets underway Saturday August 9th at 14:30 ET Time, whilst the race on Sunday at 15:15 ET time.
