MARC MARQUEZ TAKES HIS EIGHTH POLE POSITION OF THE SEASON

The first ever qualifying at the Balaton Park in Hungary for MotoGP saw the championship leader Marc Marquez absolutely smash the rest of the grid, dominating the Q2 session.

There were big names taking part in Q1, such as Bagnaia, Bezzecchi, Martin, and so on. The Italian rider of the Aprilia was set to try another comeback from Q1 as he did in Austria, taking pole after coming from the first qualy session.

The first run saw Bagnaia abort his lap, while Marco Bezecchi immediately set a flying lap of 1:36.8, which was unreachable to anyone in Q1. Six tenths was the gap to the ret of the field. However, Fabio di Giannantonio of VR46 found a 37.047 out of the box and made it to P2. Bagnaia with a 37.096 managed to stay P5 only, behind Binder and Miller. A reminder that both Alex Marquez and Brad Binder have to serve a 3-place grid penalty due to slow riding on the racing line during FP2.

The Italian, Bezzecchi and di Giannantonio have made it through Q2.

As Q2 started, the a strong pole-sitter contender, Pedro Acosta immediately crashed, and only had one run at the end of the session to try and set the best possible lap.

Marc Marquez rapidly showed that he would have controlled the pace for the whole session, as he was setting red sectors since the beginning of Q2.

A rapid KTM with Enea Bastianini got P2 ahead of Joan Mir and Fermin Aldeguer. The first laps for Bezzecchi and di Giannantonio came only towards the end of the session, as both riders had only one new set of tires, due to having taken part in Q1.

Acosta managed to only get a P7 at the end of qualy. Pol Espargaro crashed on his last attempt and finished Q2 in P12, or last place, behind Alex Marquez who qualified P11, but will start Sunday’s race from P14.

Marco Bezzecchi came out of nowhere and got P2, behind an extraordinary Marc Marquez who finished qualy with a 1:36.5. Di Giannantonio followed Bezzecchi in Q2 as well and got P3, closing up the first row.
