BRAD BENAVIDES TAKES SECOND POLE IN FORMULA 3

Brad Benavides storms into incredible pole at a confusing Formula 3 qualifying session here at Monza, it his second pole position of the year, with the AIX Racing team.

The qualifying was divided into two groups of fifteen cars. The cars with odd numbers in Group A, whilst even numbers in group B. Motorsportsclicks heard from a couple Formula 3 drivers that the plan was to go out of the pits with 7 minutes to the end, try to look for the slipstream and set the lap. So it was in both groups.

Group A has seen all the drivers set one lap only, as they were not able to stabilise themselves in a good track position to set a fast lap. It was only with a little less than two minutes to go that they were able to set a lap.

Rafael Camara ended up setting the fastest lap. However, a small tap on the gravel by the Brazilian at the exit of turn 5, saw his lap time get deleted due to track limits. Ugochukwu then set the fastest lap which was valid and enough to stay in P1, with a 1:38.613. The top 4 which had the presence of Inthraphuvasak, Bilinski and Giusti, was close within a tenth.

In group B, things were not much different, but drivers simply got out of the pits earlier and were able to set more than one lap. Which is why Brad Benavides who set the fastest lap got it half a second quicker than Ugochukwu, therefore, the American beat the American from Mclaren and took his second pole position of the year.

Noel Leon and Nikola Tsolov qualified behind the AIX driver, and Martinius Stenshorne qualified P6, which was the last position for the inversion of the grid, meaning he will start P2 in tomorrow’s Sprint race. Laurens Van Hoepen got the sprint race pole position after qualifying P6 in his own group.

The Sprint race kicks off on Saturday morning at 10:15 AM
