ROMAN STANEK HAS FASTEST LAP DELETED AFTER MAJOR INCIDENT WITH BENNETT IN F2 QUALY
Roman Stanek qualified P9 in this Friday’s Formula 2 qualy, meaning he would have started second in the sprint race on Saturday.
However, towards the end of the session, while both him and his team mate, the championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, were chasing improvements on their time, the Czech driver ended up crashing in turn 1 with the British driver John Bennett.
This denied Fornaroli to go after pole position, and it brought only negative points to the other side of Invicta’s garage.
Stanek left the track at turn 1 with one minute to go, meaning he had lost his last chance of improving his time. However, when rejoining the track, he found himself on the racing line, and as Bennett was approaching the exit of turn 1, both drivers came together and ended up crashing.
As a result, Roman Stanek has had his fastest lap deleted, dropping down to P13, guilty of being the reason behind the red flag.
Additionally, he has been given a 5-place grid penalty for both Sprint and Feature race, meaning that he did not have his fastest lap deleted, but will drop from tirtheen to eighteenth on both sprint and feature race.
He was also given 2 penalty points, which are his first ones during the last 12 months.
