CAIO COLLET FINDS OPPORTUNITY FOR POSSIBLE INDYCAR SEAT IN 2026 AS TESTING BEGINS

IndyNXT 2025 runner-up Caio Collet will test the #4 Indycar of AJ Foyt at the Indianapolis Road Course on this Wednesday, October 1st.

Indycar insider Marshall Pruett understands that Caio Collet will still have a chance to join the series in 2026 if the test goes well.

Collet finished the 2025 season second in the IndyNXT standings, losing the title to the Norwegian Dennis Hauger by 72 points. Dennis has been recently announced as a Dale Coyne Racing driver in the 2026 Indycar season, on loan from Andretti in a technical partnership. Hauger will too test on that day at the IMS.

The Brazilian joined IndyNXT after competing three years in FIA Formula 3 and may have finally found an agreement to race in Professional open wheel racing.

A driver with open wheel experience, mainly in Formula 1, will also have the opportunity to test for Penske on October 1st. His name is Felipe Nasr, former racing driver for Sauber in Formula 1, and current driver for Porsche Penske in the IMSA.

The 3-time IMSA champion has been called for numerous tests in Indycar by Penske since 2023, and will be free on the market for the 2027 season, which means a second Brazilian could be approaching the Indycar field soon.

Mick Schumacher, who is appointed to a Mclaren LMDH seat starting from 2027, will also test with an Indycar on October 13th, with the Rahal Letterman team, and perhaps return to single seater for a year while waiting for Mclaren to join the World Endurance Championship.

Enzo Fittipaldi is another name set to test in Indycar on October 13th at Indianapolis. The grandson of the F1 world champion has raced in FIA Formula 2 for three seasons and left the series to race in european endurance. However, the American-Brazilian has tested an IndyNXT car at the Autobahn racing circuit, and is set to test the Mclaren Indycar for the second time within two weeks time.

Enzo is said to be approaching an IndyNXT seat in 2026 with HMD Motorsport, trying to have a go at a full-time Indycar seat for 2027, following Dennis Hauger’s path on the road to Indycar, as they have failed to prove themselves in Formula 2 mainly due to external reasons. Otherwise, he will continue in Europe for the ELMS, racing in LMP2.
