FRECA AND EURO4: LAST KILOMETRES BEFORE QUALIFYING IN MONZA
Opposed to a rainy Thursday, the day started with the sun shining here in Monza, and track conditions have massively improved for the FRECA and E4 session.
Drivers were able to set real laps for a good reference, also for the weather we should see until the end of the weekend, besides the light spray we should see on Sunday morning.
As the drivers got the speed up, many of them tried to study the best ways possible to get a tow in qualifying, and the first session’s result was pretty much affected by that.
Moreover, we did not have a regular top 10 in the first free practice session for the Euro Formula 4. The session was led by Kabir Anurag, in front of Alex Powell and Reno Francot, with the Mercedes junior Andy Consani and Dante Vinci, closing the top 5.
On free practice 2 however, drivers and teams tested proper run as Kean Nakamura-Berta topped the second session with a 1:51.4, almost seven tenths faster than second placed Max Popov. The championship contender Gabriel Gomez did not manage to find a top 10.
However, different run plans were tested as it was only session where drivers had a dry track before qualifying.
In FRECA, it was no different, with a humid track in free practice 1 and low grip on the tarmac, drivers tried to experience the tows in order to maximise their qualifying results.
It was Pedro Clerot, currently fourth in the standings who led the session ahead of Nikita Bedrin and a very fast and consistent ART GP car, driven by Taito Kato in third.
The last friday session was concluded with a previous contender for the title leading it. Evan Giltaire topped the timesheets ahead of championship leader Freddie Slater and once again Taito Kato in third.
Championship contender Matteo de Palo sealed the top 5 behind PREMA driver Rashid Al Dhaheri. Dion Gowda did not get on track today due to unknown reasons.
