FORMULA E AND FIA UNVEIL THE NEW GEN4 RACE CAR

Formula E and the FIA have revealed the brand-new GEN4 race car, marking a new era for electric motorsport. The car will make its debut in the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and promises to be the fastest Formula E car ever built.

With a maximum power of 600kW (about 815 horsepower) and active all-wheel drive, the GEN4 is designed to push both drivers and technology to the limit. It aims to show how far electric cars have come, not just in racing, but in the development of future road cars.

The GEN4 is not just about speed, it is also the most sustainable race car ever made. It uses 100% recyclable materials, with at least 20% coming from recycled sources. Every part of the car, from the battery to the tyres and body, has been built with ethical sourcing, recyclability, and environmental impact in mind. Formula E wants this car to be a model for sustainability in sport and industry alike.

Key Highlights of the GEN4

  • Design: Two aerodynamic setups, one with high downforce for qualifying and another with lower downforce for races. This lets teams balance grip and speed for different conditions.
  • Performance:
    • 450kW of power during races
    • 600kW in “ATTACK MODE” for overtaking
    • Up to 700kW of regenerative braking, allowing more energy recovery
    • 55kWh of energy storage for longer, more strategic racing
  • Sustainability: The car sets a new standard with fully recyclable materials and a reduced environmental footprint, strengthening Formula E’s position as the world’s most eco-friendly motorsport.

Now that the GEN4 has been officially revealed, Formula E’s top manufacturers, Porsche, Nissan, Stellantis, Jaguar, and Lola Cars, will begin testing it. They will fine-tune its powertrain and energy systems, using their experience from both racing and road car development to maximize its performance.
