ALEX MARQUEZ WINS LAST MOTOGP SPRINT RACE OF THE SEASON
Alex Marquez won the final Tissot Sprint of 2025 on Saturday afternoon. It was his second Sprint win in a row and his third this season. He finished ahead of Pedro Acosta, who started from the second row but moved up quickly. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished third after passing Raul Fernandez late in the race.
Marquez started very well from second on the grid and took the lead into Turn 1, getting ahead of polesitter Marco Bezzecchi. Acosta had a strong start too, moving from fifth to third, and by Turn 2 he was already in second place. Bezzecchi, meanwhile, had a bad first lap and dropped to sixth behind Fernandez, Di Giannantonio and Fabio Quartararo.
At the start of lap two, Honda had trouble: Joan Mir crashed at Turn 2 and took down his teammate Luca Marini, ending both of their races. Mir will have to take a Long Lap penalty in the main race because of this. One lap later at the same turn, Jack Miller made contact with Fermin Aldeguer, pushing Aldeguer wide. Miller was told to drop three places as a penalty, but he did not do it, so he was given a Long Lap penalty instead.
Bezzecchi worked hard to pass Quartararo for fifth, but then he had more than one second to catch Fernandez and Di Giannantonio ahead. At the front, Marquez kept control of the race and opened a 1.4-second gap over Acosta by halfway. Acosta, still looking for his first MotoGP win, now had to watch out for the riders behind him as they began to close in. On lap nine, Franco Morbidelli passed Quartararo, pushing “El Diablo” farther back.
The fight for third place became intense near the end. On the second-to-last lap, Di Giannantonio and Fernandez swapped positions several times between Turn 4 and Turn 6. All the battling allowed Bezzecchi to get closer, but time was running out.
On the final lap, Marquez was secure in first place and crossed the line ahead of Acosta, who earned his fourth straight Sprint podium. Acosta also moved into fourth in the championship standings, passing Francesco Bagnaia, who finished only 14th.
Di Giannantonio stayed strong and kept third place, with Fernandez behind him in fourth. Bezzecchi finished fifth but still secured third place in the championship, giving Aprilia its first top-three finish in the MotoGP Riders’ Championship. Morbidelli held off Quartararo for sixth, while Brad Binder finished eighth after starting fifteenth. Ai Ogura took ninth, earning his first Sprint point since his home race at Motegi. Honda just missed scoring, with Johann Zarco in tenth.
Sunday’s race will decide how things end.
