“WE’RE GOING ALL IN”: VERSTAPPEN ON THE FINAL STRETCH OF THE SEASON

Max Verstappen spoke about his season, the title fight, and the recent disqualification that hit Mclaren as he looked ahead to the Qatar Grand Prix. He explained how he feels about the points gap, what another world title would mean to him, and why he still believes he’s in the fight:

“What did I think when I heard about the disqualification? A 24-point gap is better than 42, but overall I was more focused and happy with how the weekend went and with our performance,” Verstappen said in an interview with F1’s official media. “In any case, we still need a mistake or something else from Norris to really get back into the fight, because 24 points is still a lot.”

When asked what winning a fifth world title would mean to him, Verstappen replied: “Five is better than four, you know?” He was quick to clarify, however, that it’s not something he thinks about, and that even losing the title wouldn’t affect him much. “Even if it doesn’t happen, it’s not going to change my life. Like… fine, great, it’s one more title in the bag but nothing else.”

Looking ahead to the Qatar Grand Prix, Verstappen is clear about his intentions: “My expectations for Qatar? I mean, we’re going all in. We have nothing to lose, so I’ll try to win everything that’s left.”

Max also acknowledged that his current position in the championship fight is partly due to external factors. “We have to be realistic, we’re still in this fight because of other people’s mistakes. Even though, if you look at the whole season, I think we maximised almost every race.”

He closed the conversation with a pointed reflection: “If we’d been in a position with the kind of dominant car they have, the championship would have been over a long time ago.”
