FORMULA E IS BACK: SEASON 12 STARTS IN SÃO PAULO

Formula E Season 12 starts this Friday in São Paulo with Free Practice 1 at the Anhembi Sambadrome. Oliver Rowland arrives as the reigning World Drivers’ Champion, and Porsche leads the field after finishing last season as the top team.

This weekend, three drivers begin their Formula E careers, each aiming to show their credentials on the top stage of electric motorsport.

Joel Eriksson of Envision Racing returns to the grid, now as a full-time driver for his first complete season in Formula E. The Swedish driver previously competed in eight races for Penske in 2021, replacing Nico Müller, and made two more starts in Season 10 for Envision Racing in place of Robin Frijns. Now he is back with the #14 on the green and blue Envision, alongside team veteran Sébastien Buemi.

Felipe Drugovich of Andretti Formula E Team is another driver with previous Formula E experience. Beyond his extensive mileage in official tests, Felipe replaced Nyck de Vries twice last season at Mahindra when the Season 7 Champion faced scheduling conflicts while racing for Toyota GR in the WEC. Now carrying the #28 and racing at home this weekend, Felipe shared a few words with the press:
“I’m super, super excited. I think this will probably be one of the best experiences of my career, making my debut in an international race and in a top-tier motorsport category in Brazil. My goal is to achieve the best possible result in front of all the Brazilian fans. The track is very fast and offers plenty of incredible overtaking opportunities, with the added challenge of energy management. I’m really looking forward to arriving in São Paulo, and I’ll do my best to enjoy my debut as much as possible.”

Josep Maria Martí of Cupra Kiro is another young talent joining Formula E from the road to F1. After competing in 12 rounds of the 2025 Formula 2 season, “Pepe” Martí caught the attention of Cupra Kiro, who selected the Spaniard to race alongside Dan Ticktum in Season 12. Keep an eye on the green and bronze #3 car, it will be worth it.

Citroën joins the grid with an ambitious lineup

Citroën Racing becomes the newest team on the Formula E grid, replacing Maserati after Stellantis decided to reshape its participation in the championship. The French team announced Nick Cassidy, formerly of Jaguar, and two-time champion Jean-Éric Vergne as their driver pairing for Season 12.

Brazilian weather plays a role

São Paulo is known for having one of the most unpredictable climates on the calendar. While most rounds enjoy stable and predictable weather, São Paulo never disappoints in delivering surprises. Expect anything from rain to bright sunshine, and be prepared for quick changes.

The battle at the Sambadrome kicks off what promises to be a brilliant season ahead. Stay tuned to Motorsportsclicks’ social channels for every update throughout the weekend, live from the track.
