FORMULA-E ARRIVES IN MIAMI AS CITROËN AND CASSIDY AIM TO EXTEND STRONG FORM

Round 3 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is just around the corner, with the Miami E-Prix set to add another chapter to an already compelling start to the season. Although the campaign is still in its early stages, there is already plenty at stake as teams and drivers look to establish themselves in the title fight.

Cassidy and Citroën in the Spotlight

Nick Cassidy arrives in Miami as the leader of the World Drivers’ Championship after an outstanding start to Season 12. A podium finish in São Paulo was followed by a stunning victory in Mexico City, where the New Zealander charged from 13th on the grid to take the win.

Since joining French newcomers Citroën, Cassidy has arguably been in the best form of his Formula E career. His results have also propelled Citroën to the top of the Teams’ Championship standings, ahead of established teams such as Andretti and Nissan. Much of that success has come from Cassidy’s performances, as teammate Jean-Éric Vergne has struggled to find similar form, scoring just four points across the first two rounds.

The question now is whether Cassidy and Citroën can confirm their status as genuine title contenders and potentially open a gap to their closest rivals. The Miami E-Prix may begin to provide the answer.

New Circuit, Familiar City

The 2026 Miami E-Prix marks the third edition of the event, and notably, the third different circuit to host the race.

The inaugural Miami E-Prix in 2015 took place on the Biscayne Bay Street Circuit, where Nicolas Prost claimed victory. Last season saw Formula E return to the city, this time at the Homestead-Miami Speedway road course. Pascal Wehrlein won that race from ninth on the grid after intense battles with teammate António Félix da Costa and Lucas di Grassi.

This year’s event continues the tradition of variety, with another new layout in the calendar, as Formula-E will race in the same circuit as Formula 1, around the Hard Rock Stadium.

Andretti Enters a New Visual Era

Andretti Social Media

Andretti Formula E will debut a new livery in Miami following the announcement of TWG AI as the team’s new primary partner. The updated design features a striking black and green color scheme, marking a bold visual shift for the American outfit as they look to challenge at the front of the grid.

Rookie Free Practice Returns

Formula E will once again give emerging talent an opportunity to experience the GEN3 Evo, the fastest Formula E car to date, with the return of the Rookie Free Practice session.

The session will take place on January 30 at 14:30 local time (UTC-5) and will last 40 minutes. Each team is required to field at least one rookie driver, defined as any driver who has competed in two or fewer Formula E races. Nissan is the only team running two rookie entries.

Rookie Free Practice line-up:

  • Nissan: Abbi Pulling (GBR), Gabriele Mini (ITA)
  • Andretti: Dennis Hauger (NOR)
  • TCS Jaguar: Alessandro Giusti (FRA)
  • Citroën: Théo Pourchaire (FRA)
