THE 2026 BAHRAIN AND SAUDI ARABIAN GP ARE SET TO BE CANCELLED

The 2026 Formula 1 calendar is set to face sudden changes after growing international tensions in the Middle East might force the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.

The Bahrain Grand Prix, originally scheduled for April 10–12, and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, planned for April 17–19, are both expected to be cancelled. Motorsport sources report that both circuits have suspended their activities throughout March and April due to the regional situation.

In case the tracks are unable to operate, Formula 1 would be left with a gap in its early-season calendar.

The situation is not affecting Formula 1 alone. The World Endurance Championship (WEC) has also been forced to adjust its schedule. Qatar was supposed to host the 2026 season opener at the end of March, but the race has been delayed as a result of the same regional tensions.

Instead, the WEC will now begin its season at Imola in Italy. The pre-season Prologue and the opening race weekend are expected to take place there in mid-April. It is said that MotoGP will also cancel its GP in Qatar, that would have happened in March.

Inside Formula 1, discussions are ongoing about possible solutions to replace the cancelled races. One idea that has circulated in the paddock is a double-header at an existing circuit such as Suzuka in Japan or Melbourne in Australia.

However, this option is considered unlikely. With little time to reorganize logistics, transport equipment, and coordinate teams and promoters, creating replacement races on short notice would be extremely difficult.

For now, Formula 1 and the FIA are expected to monitor the situation while evaluating whether the calendar will simply run with two fewer races or if another solution can be found.

More official announcements are expected in the coming days.
