FERRARI WORKING ON NEW POWER UNIT CONCEPT

Ferrari continues to push hard on the development of its SF-26, not only on track but also behind the scenes at its engine department.

According to reports from AutoRacer.it, the team is already developing a new power unit concept that could appear during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend in July. Interestingly, this engine design was originally planned for the 2027 season, but Ferrari may try to introduce it much earlier.

The reason comes from problems discovered with the original engine project created for the 2026 Formula 1 regulations. Tests on the dyno reportedly showed issues with thermal efficiency and reliability, which forced Ferrari to pause that design and focus on a safer and more stable version for the start of the season.

Under the leadership of Enrico Gualtieri, Ferrari’s engine department decided to prioritize reliability while staying within Formula 1’s budget cap rules.

Even so, development of a completely new engine concept is already underway. The new design is currently being tested on the dyno, and if everything goes well, it could make its race debut later in the 2026 season.
